Kate DiCamillo was born on March 25, 1964, in Merion, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia.

She moved to Florida when she was 5 years old after her parents divorced. She suffered from chronic pneumonia, and her mother thought that a warm climate would be good for her health.

Kate DiCamillo won The Newberry Medal for The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup and a Spool of Thread (2003)

Kate DiCamillo graduated from The University of Florida with a B.A. degree

Her first 2 children's novels were set in Florida

Kate would actually get up at 4 a.m. just to write before her job
