Andrew Clements was born in Camden, New Jersey in 1949, but he also moved to Oaklyn, and then Cherry Hill. Then he moved to Springfield, Illonois. He grew up reading books like Kon-Tiki, Treasure Island, and Robin Hood. Then, he got his Masters degree in Arts and Teaching. When he grew up, he taught school for about seven years. Then, he tried a songwriting career in New York. He was also a children’s publisher for a while. He wrote picture books for almost ten years before his first "big book", Frindle, was published.
